Of 23 tons built at Russell Bay of Islands in 1855, sailed from Waitara for Kawhia
and Onehunga foundered half way between Mokau & Kawhia on 12th May 1861
after leaking. Two drowned. Capt. Josiah Hopkins.
REINDEER 1865
Ketch NZ Wrecks
Message in bottle found in December 1865 said "Ketch Reindeer foundered at
sea on October 3rd, bound from Auckland to Wanganui. Myself left out of four,
can just see Mt. Egmont. John Spiers."

Built Auckland of 255 tons for the cement trade. Acquired by NSS Co. in 1929.
In WW2 was storeship for the USA troops until wrecked on Norfolk Island on 17
June 1943.

Harbour on December 24th 1869.

Built at Auckland of 183 tons was the first vessel to be built of iron at Auckland.
NSS Co. acquired her is 1890 and used on Thames and then Coromandel runs.
Laid up 1914 beached McCallams Island 1917.

Sold to new owners and then broken up at Timaru in 1906.

Built 1872 of 101 feet and 108 tons departed Auckland for Tairua every Friday
under Capt. Sellars. Probably first vessel of any size to use Tairua harbour.

Wood Barque Wreck Book
Built in Australia in 1876 of 598 tons she sank on 26th November 1901 after
striking Shearer Rock in the Hauraki Gulf en route Auckland to Kaipara in
ballast. One life was lot.
SAND FLY 1841
Schooner NZ Wrecks
Of 16 tons, the vessel struck a rock near Kapiti island in June 1841 and sank.
She had sailed from Wellington on 10th June.

Cutter NZ Wrecks
Of 27 tons built on the North Shore Auckland in 1866, was wrecked about 11
miles south of the Buller River on 16th October 1868.

Of 25 tons built at Auckland in 1864 under Captain Peter Cadenhead was wrecked
at Napier on 13th March 1867 with loss of three lives.

Cutter NZ Wrecks
Of 17 tons built North Shore Auckland in 1864, sailed from Hokitika for
Invercargill end of 1865 and was never seen again. Capt. Walter Judd.
SMUGGLER 1867
Cutter NZ Wrecks
Of 21 tons, built Russell Bay of Islands in May 1865 capsized in a squall off
Cape Rodney on May 21st 1867. The cook drowned.
SOPHIA PATE 1841
Brig NZ Wrecks
Of 165 tons was wrecked at the end of August 1841 at Kaipara Harbour with
the loss of 21 lives. She had sailed from Auckland on 12th August for the Bay
of Islands with 25 passengers.

Cutter NZ Wrecks
Of 16 tons, built at Whangarei in 1851, was wrecked in a gale at Auckland on
26th August 1863.

Iron Steamer Wreck Book
Built in England in 1863 of 166 tons she sank on 13th February 1867 north of
Gisborne while steaming from Napier to Auckland . Six lives were lost.

Of 53 tons built at Auckland in 1869 capsized and foundered in the NW Kemp
Channel Kaipara Harbour on 30th Sept 1876. The mate was drowned.

Of 17 tons built at Coromandel in 1851, was stranded and became a total loss
on 1st February 1876 at Onetangi Beach, Waiheke Island.

In Oct-Dec 1867 the vessel under the command of Capt. Hill made seven trips
from Tairua to Auckland carrying 93,000 feet of timber.

Of 49 tons, built at Mechanics Bay, Auckland in 1861, was wrecked on passage
from Kaipara to Auckland at Ahipara in October 1866. All hands lost.

Built as SEAGULL of 1562 tons and renamed KALMARLAND in 1970. Bought
by NSS Co. in 1973. Laid up in Auckland in 1974. Sold to Florida interests in
1976 and renamed KORAL.

Built 1872 of 76 tons by H. Niccol for ANSSF Co. Last record 1911.
TALLY HO 1897
Scow Ketch Phantom
Built at Auckland by Niccol. Converted to barge in 1929 and renamed "ARGYLE".
In 1975 was moored alongside Julian's wall.
TANIWHA 1898
Steamer Northern SS Co. North
Built Auckland of 262 tons and used on the Paeroa run mostly until withdrawn
on 14th April 1938. Broken up at Sulphur Beach, Northcote November 1939.
TARANAKI 1865
Steamer Wreck Book
Built in Scotland in 1865 of 327 tons she sank in dense fog at Kawera Island,
Bay of Plenty, carrying passengers from Auckland.
TASMAN 1903

Built Auckland as the WHANGAPARAOA of 178 tons. Sold to Anchor Shipping
in 1907 and acquired by NSS Co. in 1908. Wrecked on Rurima Reef off Matata
12 May 1921.
TASMANIA 1892
Steamer Wreck Book
Built in England of 1265 tons she sank on 29th July 1897 off Mahia in dirty
weather with loss of 18 lives while en route Auckland - Napier. Lots of
jewellery discovered by Kelly Tarlton in 1975.
TAURANGA 1870 .... COLGER
Steamer NZ Wrecks
Of 95 tons. Built at Auckland in 1867. Sank after a collision with "ENTERPRISE"
on July 23/24th 1870 between Cape Rodney and Sail Rock. Loss of 18 lives and
both vessels.
TAWERA 1875 R. CHURCH
Schooner NZ Wrecks
Of 55 tons built at North Shore Auckland in 1863 stranded off Sandy Beach
14 miles from Kaipara Harbour in September 1875. All hands were lost.

Built Devonport of 60 tons had a long list of owners, NSS Co. owned her just
one year 1890-91. Foundered off Whangarei Heads 1st April 1907.
