Scow Hold Schooner Phantom
Built at Auckland by Niccol. Struck Flat Rock near Kawau Is in 1928. The
crew jumped onto the rock and the scow sailed off.
HERO 1851
Schooner NZ Wrecks
Of 17 tons built at Auckland by Chas McCready in 1850 was capsized and sank
when running for shelter to the Wai River on 18th August 1851. The crew of
three were all drowned.

Scow Schooner Phantom
Built at Auckland by Niccol. Converted to a hold vessel. Name changed to
"HOROUTA". Lost on Centre Is. Foveaux Strait in 1942

Schooner NZ Wrecks
Of 75 tons built at Great Omaha in 1876 was lost at sea en route from
Auckland to Samoa in May 1878. All hands were lost.

USA Owned was wrecked in Bay of Islands on 16th April 1848.

Driven ashore on Kapiti Island and totally wrecked on 8/6/1828.
HUNTRESS 1872 J. BOWERS
Schooner NZ Wrecks
Built as dredge at Manning NSW in 1853, but converted to paddle steamer in
1865 and again in 1868 to sailing schooner. Struck rocks when approaching
Russell, Bay of Islands on 15th March 1872.
HUON BELLE
Australian Ketch Argosy
Built 1864 at Port Cygnet. Traded Dunedin to Lyttelton to 1896. Then
Whangarei to Auckland until 1933.

Schooner NZ Wrecks
Of about 16 tons was driven ashore in Commercial Bay Auckland and became a
total wreck. March 5th 1852
ILIOMAMA 1853 H. STURLEY
Schooner NZ Wrecks
Of 68 tons and built at Baltimore USA, Capt. H. Sturley. Wrecked at Hawkes
Bay on 5th July 1853 - some 12 miles east of East Cape. Previously grounded
at Tamaki heads on 25/1/1850 but repaired
IONA 1875
Steamer Northern SS Co North
Built at Auckland in 1875 of 219 tons. Sold in 1899. Dismantled in 1903 and
finally broken up in Auckland in 1909

Scow Schooner Phantom
Built at Oamaha by Darroch. Finished up on the hard at Kawau Is post 1922.
IVANHOE 1874 Donald STUART
Schooner NZ Wrecks
Of 72 tons and built at Whangarei in 1861. Sailed for Fiji from Auckland on
26th August 1874 and was never seen again. Crew of six all lost

Officially recorded as lost off Waiheke Is in 1861 but there is no
confirmation by newspaper report. She was of 18 tons built in 1853.

Cutter NZ Wrecks
Dragged her moorings and was dashed against the pier at Auckland during
gale on June 21st 1863.

Schooner NZ Wrecks
Of 37 tons Built at Auckland in 1865. Foundered off Chamberlains Islands,
Hauraki Gulf on June 27th 1870. One drowned.

Of 27 tons and built Queens Street Wharf Auckland in 1864. Went ashore near
Kourangi Rocks, Mercury Bay on 24th Feb. 1875.

Schooner Moore P 27
Tahitian built of 67 tons. Arrived Wellington 17/5/1840 Capt. Munn, sailed
19 June 1840 for Blind Bay & Bay of Islands. Returned Wellington 9 September
1840.

67 tons. Sailed Wellington 3/4/1841 bound for Wanganui but was wrecked on
the coast near Kapiti Island 20/4/1841.

Of 42 tons built at Auckland in 1866 sailed from Lyttelton on 3rd April 1869
for Auckland and was never seen again.

Of 15 tons built at Auckland in 1860 was driven ashore at the Mangawai bar
on March 23rd 1861, Crew and five passengers reached shore safely.

Of 15 tons built at Matata in 1853. Totally wrecked at Takatu Point, Hauraki
Gulf on May 28th 1871.

Of 16 tons built at Maraetai Auckland in 1864 went ashore on Takatu Reef
near Kawau Island on June 4th 1875.

Cutter NZ Wrecks
Of 16 tons Built at Auckland in 1851. Was stranded and became a total loss
on Okains Bay beach on 24th April 1870. No lives lost
JUPITER 1876 R. DAY
Ketch NZ Wrecks
Of 27 tons and built at Onehunga in 1860, foundered outside the Sumner Bar
on 3rd August 1876 when the anchor pierced the bow.

Built at Oamaha by Darroch. Lost with all hands in 1920 en route Motiti
Island to Auckland.
KAIKOURA 1877 John ANDERSON
Schooner NZ Wrecks
Of 31 tons built at Auckland in 1875, was supposed to have foundered near
Charleston West Coast in June 1877.
KAIUMA 1878 F. MAULE
Schooner NZ Wrecks
Of 39 tons built at Kaiuma Bay Marlborough in 1866, foundered at sea en
route from Waitara to Onehunga in August 1878. Seven persons were lost
including the master's young son.

Built by William Denny at Dumbarton of 202 tons. In service until 1922 . Buried
in the western reclamation at Auckland in 1927.
KAPANUI 1898
Steamer Northern SS Co North
Built at Auckland of 109 tons. Caught fire whilst alongside at Warkworth
on 12 August 1909 and was damaged beyond repair.
KATE 1876 Charles KLEIM
Schooner NZ Wrecks
Of 26 tons built at Hot Springs Auckland in 1859, foundered on May 14th 1876
18 miles west of the Grey River. No lives were lost in the accident.

Of 35 tons built on North Shore Auckland in 1865 was lost with all hands on
her maiden voyage to East Cape.

Built by Logan at Auckland in 1899 of 99 tons. Dismantled and used as a Yacht
Clubhouse on the Tamaki River and finally rotted away there.
KESTREL 1905
Screw Waitemata Ferry Waitemata
Built 1905 by Bailey of 246 tons. Converted to diesel in 1959. Bought by
North Shore Ferries Ltd. 1960.
KIA ORA 1903
Scow Schooner Phantom
Built Auckland by J Graydon in 1903. Wrecked at Kawau Island in 1908.
KIATERE 1908
Scow Ketch Phantom
Built at Auckland by Tyler & Harvey. Was converted to a lighter and
register closed in 1917.

towards end of 1865 with 20 passengers. Believed foundered with all hands.

Built Kiel as MADGALENE VINNEM now USSR training ship SEDOV. Arrived
Auckland 1933.

Scow Schooner Phantom
Built at Auckland by Niccol. Wrecked south of Tacking Point NSW in 1917.
KORORAREKA 1865 .... RIVER
Schooner NZ Wrecks
Of 17 tons, built Auckland in 1851, stranded on a sandbank when leaving
Waikoukou, Thames on October 7th 1865. relocated and then sank due to taking
in too much water. Captain River and crew survived.
KOTITI 1898
Steamer Northern SS Co North
Built Auckland in 1898 of 58 tons. Had many owners before going missing on
night of 10 October 1931 in heavy weather near Westport.
