Biographical notes are compiled from the Nominal Rolls of the New Zealand Expeditionary Force (NZEF), the Commonwealth War Graves Commission, the Manawatu Evening Standard newspaper and New Zealand electoral rolls.

Lance-Coproral William John Balsillie, of the 2nd Battalion of the Otago Regiment of the NZEF died on 12th October 1917 in the Ypres area, Belgium. He has no known grave. He was the only son of John and Annie Balsillie, of 10 Massey St., Palmerston North.
In October 1917 the NZ division took part in the Third Battle of Ypres (Passchendaele). The 12th of Oct 1917 has been described as the worst day on the Western Front for the New Zealanders.

Lance-Coproral Robert Carville Bett, of the 1st Battalion of the Otago Regiment of the NZEF died on 15th of June, 1917 in France. He was 26. He was the son of John and Mary Bett, of 16 Queen St., Palmerston North.

Private Edward Leslie Blaxall, of the 2nd Battalion of the Otago Regiment of the NZEF died on 12th October 1917 in Belgium. He was the son of Mr. and Mrs. J. Blaxall, of Wellington.

Farrier Corporal John George Mackay Carson, of the 2nd Brigade of the New Zealand Field Artillery died on 17th of May 1918 in France. He was 30. He was the son of James Henry and Williamina Pope Smith Carson (nee Mackay), of 13 Queen St., Palmerston North. His brother James also died in 1918.

Gunner James Henry Carson, of the New Zealand Training Unit died on 12th of November 1918. He was 26. He was the son of James Henry and Williamina Pope Smith Carson (nee Mackay), of 13 Queen St., Palmerston North. He was born at Wellington.
It is probable that he died in the 'flu epidemic that swept through the Featherston Reinforcement Camp in November 1918. His brother John also died in 1918.

Gunner William Andrew Chapman, of the New Zealand Field Artillery died on 27th November, 1918 in France. He was 24 years old. He was the son of W. L. H. and J. Chapman, of 77, Kairanga Rd., Palmerston North.

Corporal Charles Hill Davies, of the 2nd Battalion of the New Zealand Rifle Brigade died on 15th September 1916 on the Somme, France. He was the son ofWilliam and Sarah Moore Davies.

Corporal John Charles Muir Dunlop, of 1st Battalion of the Otago Regiment of the NZEF died on the 25th of August, 1918 in France. He was the only son of William and Frances Dunlop, of Gympie, Australia and Palmerston North. He was a bank clerk at the Bank of Australasia in Palmerston North, secretary to the PN Tennis Club and the Manawatu Rugby Union.

Lance Corporal Gilbert Matthew Gardner, of the Wellington Mounted Rifles died on 9th August 1916 in Egypt. He has no known grave. He was the son of Robert and Kezier (sic) Mary Gardner, of Te Karina, Terrace End, Palmerston North. Also served at Gallipoli. Born at Wellington.

Serjeant Hugh Gilchrist, 2nd Battalion of the Wellington Regiment of the NZEF died on 30th of May 1916, in the region of Armentieres, France, aged 28. He has no known grave. He was the son of Mr. J. H. Gilchrist, of Palmerston North, New Zealand; husband of Clara G. F. Gilchrist, of 257, Willis St., Wellington, New Zealand.

Private Amos Arthur Hardisty, of the 1st Battalion of the Otago Regiment of the NZEF died on 12th of October 1917, in the Ypres area, Belgium. He has no known grave. He was the son of the late Amos and Hannah B. Hardisty, of Barmoldswick, England; husband of Elizabeth Cameron Hardisty, of 210 Featherston St., Palmerston North, Wellington, New Zealand. Native of Drax Abbey, Selby, England.

Rifleman Fritz William Honore, of the 4th Battalion of the New Zealand Rifle Brigade died on 26th of October 1918, in France. He was the son of Mr. and Mrs. A. Honore, of Tiritea, Palmerston North.

Gunner William Dickson Kinnear, of the New Zealand Field Artillery died on 7th May 1917, in Belgium. He was 29. He was the son of Jane Neave Kinnear, of 105, Queen St., Forfar, Scotland, and the late William Kinnear.

Gunner Vernon Clifton Liddell, of the New Zealand Field Artillery died on 24th April 1918, on the Somme battlefield, France. He was 24 years old. He was the son of on of James and Kate Liddell, of Palmerston North.

Private Eric Leslie Low of the 1st Battalion of the Otago Regiment of the NZEF died on 3rd December 1917, in France. He was 20 years old. He was the son of David Walker and Mary Low, of 6, Ihaka St., Palmerston North.

Major Dr. Arthur Anderson Martin of the New Zealand Medical Corps died on 17th of September, 1916. He had been in practice in Palmerston North for a number of years.

Private James Mirk of the 2nd Battalion of the Otago Regiment of the NZEF died on 12th October 1917 in the Ypres area, Belgium. He has no known grave. He was the husband of Priscilla Mirk, of Palmerston North.

Private Lindsay Gordon Parlane of the 1st Battalion of the Auckland Regiment of the NZEF died on 30th of September, 1916 on the Somme battlefield, France. He was the son of James and Amelia Parlane, of Wilson St., Ellerslie, Auckland. Native of Oxford, Canterbury.

Rifleman Horace George Pegden of the New Zealand Rifle Brigade died on 15th of September, 1916 on the Somme battlefield, France. He was the son of Mr. and Mrs. W. E. Pegden, of The Square, Palmerston North.

Bombadier Owen George Whittaker Priest of the New Zealand Field Artillery died on 9th of July, in France. He was the son of Mr. O. J. and Annie Priest, of Mahoe St., Hamilton, New Zealand.

Private Joseph Stanley Remnant of the NZEF died on 19th March 1915 in Albany, Western Australia, Australia.

Private Munro William Neil Ross of the 1st Battalion of the Wellington Regiment of the NZEF died on 16th of September, 1916 on the Somme battlefield, France. He was 28 years old. He was the son of Thomas and Annie Ross, of 10, Morris St., Palmerston North and a native of Otago. His brother Gordon also died on the Somme.

Private Gordon Leslie Ross of the 2nd Battalion of the Otago Regiment of the NZEF died on 15th of September, 1916 on the Somme battlefield, France. He was 20 years old. He was the son of Thomas and Annie Ross, of 10, Morris St., Palmerston North and a native of Otago. His brother Munro also died on the Somme.

Private Frederick Hein Sowerby of the 1st Battalion of the Wellington Regiment of the NZEF died on 27th July 1918 in France. He was the husband of Annie Marjory Sowerby, of 24 Bryant St., Palmerston North.

Second Lieutenant Thomas Ebenezer Stubbs of the 2nd Battalion of the New Zealand Rifle Brigade died on 12th October 1917 in Belgium. He was the son of William and Ada Louisa Stubbs, of "Kade," Ohaupo Rd., Hamilton, Waikato.

Rifleman Dugald McPherson Wighton of the New Zealand Rifle Brigade died on 14th of October 1917 in Belgium. He was the son of David and Isabella Wighton, of "Scotia," Eastbourne, Wellington.
