Biographical notes are compiled from the Nominal Rolls of the New Zealand Expeditionary Force (NZEF), the Commonwealth War Graves Commission, the Manawatu Evening Standard newspaper and New Zealand electoral rolls.

Second Lieutenant Edwin Bolton Bennett, of the 2nd Battalion of the NZ Rifle Brigade died on 12 Oct 1917 aged 22, in Belgium. He has no known grave. He was the son of Arthur Edwin and Rebecca Bennett, of Palmerston North.
In October 1917 the NZ division took part in the Third Battle of Ypres (Passchendaele). The 12th of Oct 1917 has been described as the worst day on the Western Front for the New Zealanders.

Serjeant David Gordon Burbush of the Auckland Regiment of the NZEF died on the 25th of April 1915 at Gallipoli. He has no known grave. He was the son of Mr. Frank and Mrs Catherine Burbush, of Victoria St., Hamilton. His brother George died in France.

Driver George Edgar Burbush of the NZ Field Artillery died on the 27th of October, 1918 in Vertigneul, France. He was 22 years old. He was the son of Mr. Frank and Mrs Catherine Burbush, of Victoria St., Hamilton. His brother David died at Gallipoli.

Serjeant John Harold Edwards, of the 1st Battalion of the Wellington Regiment of the NZEF died on the 30th September 1918 in France. His grave/memorial is in the Villers Hill British Cemetery. He was the son of William and Agnes Edwards, of 324, Church St., Palmerston North.
On the 30th of September 1918 the village of Villers-Guislain was taken from the Germans in heavy fighting.

Serjeant Hugh Gilchrist, of the 2nd Battalion of the Wellington Regiment of the NZEF died on 30th of May 1916, in the region of Armentieres, France, aged 28. He has no known grave. He was the son of Mr. J. H. Gilchrist, of Palmerston North, New Zealand; husband of Clara G. F. Gilchrist, of 257, Willis St., Wellington, New Zealand.

Rifleman William Charles Gilchrist, of C Company, 2nd Battalion of the New Zealand Rifle Brigade died on the 12th September 1918 in France. He was the son of Mrs. L. H. Gilchrist, of Terrace St., Palmerston North.

Private Victor Emanuel Hodson, of the New Zealand Cyclist Battalion died on 17th April 1918 in the area of Messines, Belgium. He has no known grave. He was the son of Mr. and Mrs. Albert Edward Hodson, of 112, Church St., Palmerston North.

Private Eustace Fitzroy Haddon, of the 2nd Battalion of the Wellington Regiment of the NZEF died on 13th October 1917 in France, aged 30. He was the son of George and Sarah Haddon, of Leamington, Warwickshire, England.

Saper Herbert 'Bert' Jarrett of the New Zealand Engineers died on the 1st of March, 1919 of pneumonia, in Tidworth, England. He had probably been at the nearby Salisbury Training Grounds. He was the son of George Pollock Jarrett, of 519 Main St., Palmerston North. He had at least two sisters.

Second Lieutenant Ernest Richard Leary of the Machine Gun Corps of the (English) York and Lancaster Regiment died of wounds on the 23rd of July, 1916. He was the son of Richard and Florence Lucy Leary, of Palmerston North.

Second Lieutenant Oscar Magnusson, of the 3rd Battalion of the Wellington Regiment of the NZEF died on 4th October 1917 in Belgium. He was the son of Mr. and Mrs. J. E. Magnusson, of 7, Snelson St., Palmerston North.
On the 4th of October 1917, Dochy Farm was taken by the New Zealanders in the Battle of Broodseinde.

Private James Albert Mattson of the1st Battalion of the Canterbury Regiment of the NZEF died on the 21st of September, 1916 on the Somme, France. He was the son of Mr. and Mrs. Fred Mattson, of Wansbeck St., Oamaru, previously Waiata, Colyton, Feilding. He had been in Inchbonnie, Westland before he enlisted.
He has no known grave and he may be New Zealand's Unknown Warrior.

Private Alfred McCall of New Zealand Entrenching Battalion, NZEF died on the 16th of April 1918 in the Messines/Ypres are of Belgium. He was the son of James William and Margaret McCall of Palmerston North and Wellington. His brother Robert died from wounds received at Gallipoli.

Private Robert James McCall of of the Otago Regiment of the NZEF died on the 11th of May, 1915 from wounds received in action at Gallipoli. He was the fourth son of James William and Margaret McCall of Palmerston North and York Bay, Wellington. His brother Alfred died in Belgium.

Driver Robert Reaburn, of the New Zealand Field Artillery died on 28th November, 1918. He is buried in the Terrace End Cemetery, Palmerston North, suggesting that he was invalided home and died there. He was the son of Robert William and Sarah Reaburn, of 3, Ruahine St., Palmerston North. He was born in Melbourne, Australia.

Private Archibald Frederick Robbie, of the Otago Regiment of the NZEF died on 9th of August 1915 in Gallipoli, Turkey. He was 23. He was the eldest son of William and Louisa Robbie, of 289 Featherston St., Palmerston North.
The Battle of Sari Bair took place 6th – 10th August 1915.

Private James Sheerin of the Wellington Regiment of the NZEF died on the 8th of August 1915 in Gallipoli, Turkey. He was the son of Mr. and Mrs. James Sheerin, of 36 North St., Palmerston North. His brother Patrick also died in WWI.
The Battle of Sari Bair took place 6th – 10th August 1915.

Private Patrick Sheerin, of the Otago Regiment of the NZEF died on 17 May 1915 in Gallipoli, Turkey. He was the son of Mr. and Mrs. James Sheerin, of 36 North St., Palmerston North. His brother James also died in WWI

Private Sydney Standen, of the 1st Battalion of the Wellington Regiment of the NZEF died on 22nd of October 1917 in France. He has no known grave. He was the son of Samuel and Ellen Elizabeth Standen, of Turama Road, Royal Oak, Auckland.

Private Augustus Isidor Rockstrow, 474A, of the 21st Company of the Australian Machine Gun Corps died on 25th September 1917 in Belgium. He was 39. He was the son of John Frederick and Ann Eunice Rockstrow.
