Auckland Research Centre: Letters to Governor Grey. Microfilm, historic newspapers, Family History Centre, Te Kohinga Matua Maori Collection.

Indexes to births, deaths and marriages, shipping indexes, immigration and passenger lists, electoral rolls, cemetery records, church records and army records. New Zealand Index which includes marriage and death notices from the New Zealand Herald, 1877 - 1885. The Provincial History Index which includes obituaries from the Auckland Star, 1933 - 1995. Includes information on Auckland Central City Library card indexes.

Auckland City Archives holds documents created for the Auckland City Council since its establishment in 1871 and documents that were created by local authorities which have amalgamated with the City since 1882.

These authorities include Arch Hill Road Board, Avondale Borough Council, County of Waiheke, Eden Terrace Road Board, Ellerslie Borough Council, Epsom Road Board, Grey Lynn Borough Council, Karangahape Highway Board, Mount Albert City Council, Mount Eden Borough Council, Mount Roskill Borough Council, Mount Wellington Borough Council, Newmarket Borough Council, Onehunga Borough Council, Orakei Road Board, Otahuhu Borough Council, One Tree Hill Borough Council, Parnell Borough Council, Point Chevalier Road Board, Ponsonby Highway District Board, Remuera Road Board, Tamaki City Council and Tamaki Road Board.

The documents kept in the Archives relate to former and existing functions and activities undertaken by local authorities. Over time these have included responsibilities for baths and swimming pools, cemeteries, drainage, electricity, fire fighting, health, housing, libraries, the art gallery, the zoo, milk, parks, reserves and domains, policing, refuse disposal, roading, town planning, traffic, trams and buses, water, rating, municipal elections, valuation, unemployment relief, civil defence, council staff, council properties and facilities, resource management, district schemes, by laws, annual reports and accounts and the municipal abattoir.
